A symbolic marriage ceremony is a non-legally binding ceremony conducted by a celebrant or officiant outside of the registry office. You may opt for a traditional ceremony with the standard vows as in a legally binding ceremony or you may personalize the ceremony with your own vows, a reading, poetry or other symbolic act such as a handfasting ceremony. Some couples opt for this ceremony to celebrate a milestone wedding anniversary and many more who were married in Gibraltar return on their first, fifth, tenth or other wedding anniversaries to renew their vows and a photo-shoot.
The ceremony may take place anywhere you wish although some locations will require a permit. A marriage diploma is issued to mark the occasion.
