This is our most basic package including all that is required to be legally married in Gibraltar and perfectly suited for those couples looking for a simple, no-frills ceremony in the elegant Gibraltar Registry Office.
Under the Gibraltar Marriage Act 2015, the minimum residency rule is to spend at least one night in Gibraltar (not Spain) either immediately before or after the wedding day. For those couples travelling in across the border from Spain just to get married, this would be suitable and we provide very discounted accommodation at all grades of hotels and apartments in Gibraltar.
For those couples flying in from the UK and beyond, you will need to spend at least 3 nights in Gibraltar in order to comply with the pre-wedding formalities. So, for example, if you flew in on a Sunday, you would complete the necessary paperwork on the Monday morning, be married on the Tuesday and fly back on the Wednesday unless you are going on to Spain or Morocco in which case you may leave immediately after the ceremony. We can arrange all of this for you.
Our wedding took place on 4th November 2020 when most of Europe was descending into the second Covid 19 chaos. This was the second attempt to marry in Gibraltar ; the first attempt in April had to be cancelled when the borders were closed . Everything went perfectly as planned this time , from leaving our home in Algarve on Monday morning , until we returned on the following Wednesday evening . We were treated with helpful courtesy by all concerned and thoroughly enjoyed the simple ceremony.
Michael & Manon, 4th November 2020
Take a look in and around the Gibraltar Registry Office:
Nothing is as quite as romantic as the notion to just take off without telling anyone, seal the deal and return home to announce the happy news to surprised family and friends.
Well, a certain famous duo certainly thought so and on 20th March 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono quietly disembarked on the sunny Mediterranean shores of Gibraltar, got married in a civil marriage ceremony at the Gibraltar registry office and then after a quick photo shoot on the runway in front of the Rock, took off again for their now infamous bed-in for peace at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam.
This set the trend for innumerous couples to follow suit and, indeed, Gibraltar has been the destination wedding hotspot for celebrity couples such as Sean Connery & Diane Cilento, Lawrence Harvey & Margaret Leighton, Sarah Churchill (daughter of Winston Churchill) & Thomas Touchet, Douglas Hall (Newcastle United manager) & Louise Roberts. Christian Lacroix's niece got married in Gibraltar and Roger Moore honeymooned there whilst Prince Charles & Princess Diana embarked on their honeymoon cruise from Gibraltar. Royalty has also recently been married in Gibraltar but the identity of the couple remains a secret.
Gibraltar has featured on the ITV series, 'Gibraltar, Britain in the Sun' as well as the popular reality show, The Real Housewives of Cheshire.
