Spiritual, Wiccan or Pagan Blessing, Handfasting Ceremony If you're looking for something a little extra special, beyond the ordinary, more meaningful and very intimate and private to the two of you, then a spiritual ceremony of your choice is for you.
In these recent times, where the world has changed as we know it and relationships have suffered due to forced separations, Covid has changed our perceptions and priorities. If anything, we value each other even more now and understand how fragile this life we live can be.
This is why so many couples are now opting for this timeless and rich in meaning ceremony. Many add this to the legal ceremony; others choose this for their renewal of vows and just as many others simply choose the spiritual ceremony on its own.
Thousands of years old, this traditional, Celtic ritual, the handfasting ceremony is where the couple hold hands with so that the pulse points on their wrists are touching. First the couple's hands are tied together with ribbon in a symbol of everlasting unity and the binding of two lives with the ribbon being looped six times with the couple making a vow or declaration at each loop. Once the couple are joined symbolically, the guests, if any, are invited to be bound to the couple too and have ribbons attached from the couple to them. It is often included in Wiccan and Pagan ceremonies as well as more modern marriage ceremonies around the world.
This ceremony is also reflective of the Hindu marriage ceremony tradition of attaching a pink or red 'dupatta' (scarf) to the bride's wedding dress and then tying it to the groom. The couple then walk the sacred fire seven times with the pandit chanting declarations/vows at each step. This is said to ensure that the couple will be together for their next seven lifetimes.
